Beaded rock

BJP September

Here is my beaded rock for Sept. I know that I'm a little behind, but this month I am going to play catch up. Just finished my bee rock. I decided on a honey bee this time because of the plight that the honey bee faces in this country recently. Honey bees are facing a serious crisis in our country right now and disappearing at an alarming rate and scientist are not really sure why. I think any of us that are gardeners knows how important this little fella is when it comes to pollination. Many of us have heard a little about the problem but we truly don't realize how serious it is. One of the suspects are the new hybrid plants that they are producing that have the insecticide right in the plants as it grows. I am a strong proponent of organic foods and eat organic when ever they are available. Here is just one more reason to support organic growers. Educate yourself about the food you put in your body. Eat organic and support Non GMO foods.

Hope you enjoy my little bee and next I'm working on a little lizard. He's about half finished so stay tuned.....Have a great day  :)

  1. Susan, each month gets better and better! ...and I loved the first one. I'm with you on the organic. All of those chemicals can't be good. We are growing our aronia berries organically. You don't realize how important something such as a honey bee is until it is gone.

    1. Thanks Connie. I have enjoyed these goofy rocks and kind of hate to see this year come to an end. And about the organic foods, I don't mean to lecture but since I changed my diet about 2 years ago to almost all organic foods I feel soooo... much better!! I wish I could shout it from the roof tops and make people understand. All those chemicals are BAD for us and the environment.

    1. I had some fun with the design of the wings. The veins are done with size 15 seed beads and the wings themselves were a translucent gold sead bead. I think it gives them a somewhat realistic look. Thanks for coming on over to the blog! :)

  4. Bless you, Susan, for making this bee rock, and for all your wisdom regarding its meaning. I am always so smitten with your work. I hope you realize what an artist you are. And I hope this and your other beaded rocks will be shown somewhere. There must be a bee preservation and/or research group somewhere that could use a picture of your rock for a publication or conference logo.... just a thought...

    1. Thanks Robin for your wonderful words, they mean so much coming from such a talented person as yourself :) I'm not real sure what I will do with my rocks when this is all finished. But for right now I have them proudly displayed in my living room where I can always see and enjoy them everyday. They are always a conversation piece when people come over...lol.

    1. Thanks Linda. I really enjoyed this rock. It had a little more meaning than some of the others I have done this year. Just by luck I had the beads needed to get the effect I wanted with the wings. I also like the realism they have. Thanks again. :)
