B&B Show Buttons 2014

One of the exhibits that I enjoy at the Bead and Button show in Milwaukee is the National Button Society's exhibit. It's delightful to see all the old buttons. Here are a few pictures of the buttons they had at this years show. And again, pardon the reflection of the glass in the photos. The buttons are inside glass display cases. The first one is a collection of buttons that contain sapphires in them:

I have recently moved to Florida as some of you know. I relocated to Melbourne/Palm Bay area. So far I love it. But what's not to love. Eighty degree temps and sunshine while the rest of the country is getting slammed with winter. At the time that I'm posting this poor Buffalo, NY had just received 70" of snow. I can't even image.

 Well anyways, one night I was wondering if FL had a button society of its own so I Goolged it. And behold I found several groups. The closest one was located in Deland which is about an hour and a half drive from me. So I decided to jump in the car and go. I had a wonderful time meeting fellow button fanatics. Such a truly friendly group of people. I am going to fit right in with these folks. I also found out that there is a state wide button show in January in Daytona. Think I'm going to have to go to that as well. I will try to post more info about that show when I find out more about it.

I have also recently open an Etsy shop where I plan to sell crazy quilt/fiber art supplies. and some finished pieces of jewelry. At the moment I mostly have some beautiful Czech buttons. I plan to offer some beautiful fibers, laces, and crazy quilt packages. Please feel free to visit.

Well I've been a way for awhile working hard getting ready for my flea market business this summer. I have been busy buying, pricing, sorting, and making items for sale for the up coming summer. My business is a combination of supplies that one would use for fiber arts/crazy quilting and finished jewelry. For the crazy quilter/fiber artist I will have many wonderful laces, beads, buttons, silk ribbons, and fabrics. For finished jewelry I have earrings, necklaces, and bracelets. Here are a few photos of some of the earring and necklaces.

 

 

I have also made some altered art items. One is a shabby chic shadow box.

 

 

 

 

 

And other items are altered spoons and forks. I made a few of these last year and almost sold out of them. So I decided to make a few more.

I will attending this years Bead and Button show in Milwaukee, WI again. Last year I just went to shop. I had a great time. Three days of shopping for beads. I was in heaven. This year I will be shopping again but I have also sign up for a class. I will be taking a class with Sherry Serafini and Hannah Rosner. Here is a picture of what we will be learning:

 

 

I can hardly wait. Shibori seems to be the latest craze and I am looking forward to learning how to use it. If anyone else is going to the show maybe email me and we could get a soda or something.  Well back to work. I have been researching about possibly doing some sales on Ebay.  We will see. It's a lot to learn. Any whooo..... have a great day.

Bead and Button Show Pictures

Here are a few more photos of some of the lovely bead work pieces that were at the Bead and Button Show this year in Milwaukee a few weeks ago. Please forgive the amateur quality of photos. I had to take the pictures thru glass and the sun was shining brightly that beautiful day.

 

I think this was one of my favorite pieces (Diane Hyde, 'Tattered'). It is actually a collar. Under all the crystals is a wonderful lace. Really quite beautiful.

This piece by Tatiana Fitspatrick (Anastasia) won Best of Show and I feel it truly deserved that award. It's all seed beads with a lovely color scheme that created a miniature carpet. So much work and detail.

  

The National Button Society also had a wonderful exhibit with a large sampling of many antique buttons. Here are a few shots of that exhibit.
 

 

 

There were also some very nice silk ribbon pieces at the show. I don't know if they were part of a competition or just on display. Here are a few of those items:

I had a wonderful time at the show. It was the first time I was able to attend mostly because it is difficult for me to take off of work during this time of year. But I did it and I had a GREAT time. Everyone was so friendly and happy to be there. I didn't attend any classes but I did do the 3 days of shopping. One night I had come back to my motel room and was listening to some ladies in the hall discussing their day. One says to the other 'I think I spent a lot of money today. Actually, I spent it all' I had to just laugh at her because I think I was in the same boat. Again, I had a wonderful time and hopefully I can attended next year show.
